Principal SecretaryMs. Mary Muthoni Muriuki, CBS is Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, a role she has held since May 17, 2023. She hails from Kiambuu village in Kirinyaga County and completed her secondary education at Kabare Girls High School before earning a Bachelor of Education from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management and Marketing from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. Before joining government, she served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Women in Business Kenya, championing women's access to government procurement opportunities, and became the first female director at the Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry from 2016 to 2019. She was the founding executive director of St-Petroc Premier School, chairing its board until December 2022, when she was appointed Principal Secretary for Correctional Services, a post she held until May 2023. She has since served as Deputy Dean of the Principal Secretaries, chairs the Kenya Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund Grant and the Health Sector Medium Term Expenditure Framework Budget Working Groups, and was recently elected Chairperson of the African Permanent and Principal Secretaries for Health.
